Eucalyptus honey

In the central areas of Italy, in particular in Lazio, there is a dense vegetation of eucalyptus trees originating in Oceania imported and planted in the Italian territory during the period of the marsh drainage. This is where most of the eucalyptus honey produced in Italy comes from.

This unifloral honey is appreciated not only for its particular flavor but also for the numerous beneficial properties that characterize it, the same as the essential oil extracted from the noble plant. It is therefore used to cushion and combat the main symptoms of colds, being a good antiseptic and having excellent fluidifying and antispasmodic properties capable of controlling coughs and dissolving phlegm.

From the particularly dense composition the eucalyptus honey it does not have a very high humidity: its average degree is around 14% on average and crystallization occurs in a few months. When presented in crystalline form it has a very fine grain, with a very characteristic thick and pasty consistency.

Even the coloring tends to consolidate in the crystallization phase reaching a color tending to ivory white, while in the previous phases it passes from amber to gray.

The balsamic scent of eucalyptus honey it is particularly aromatic: fresh and intense, it immediately recalls the aromas of the plant, concentrated in the flowers and leaves. There is also a particular honey originated from Eucalypttus globuluss which has an even more intense almost spicy aroma with hints of licorice aroma.

Thanks to these peculiar characteristics that can make it unique and special, eucalyptus honey is one of the most popular and widespread in the area: in particular its consumption in winter is able to soothe and relieve physical discomfort that derive from the season cold.


Other beneficial properties of eucalyptus honey

From colds to bronchitis, this honey has always been used to treat all the diseases of the respiratory tract: dissolved in herbal teas, infusions or milk thanks to the balsamic aroma derived from eucalyptol and its antibacterial virtues, it can be an excellent aid to suppress cough , dissolve phlegm, relieve dry and sore throat. It is also a good natural antibiotic.

In herbal medicine it is used in preparations that combine its virtues with those of propolis: on the market there are syrups obtained from the extracts of these powerful natural substances, capable of offering benefits and curative virtues for the organism weakened by winter.

In addition to giving relief in case of cough and sore throat, eucalyptus honey, thanks to its antiseptic properties, is of excellent help in curing some mild pathologies related to the urinary tract. In particular, it is able to offer relief in cases of cystitis, by virtue of its antibacterial properties.

Since it is rich in enzymes it also has the ability to slightly lower the fever.

It is also useful as a dewormer and has a good healing power to treat mouth sores: in these cases it is necessary to spread the affected part with a small part of the product.

Even in the case of a lazy intestine, it is a good habit to indulge in a spoonful of eucalyptus honey every day, to be used dissolved in a little water in the morning or as a sweetener for herbal teas.
