Question: Happiness stub
Dear gardening editor,
during the winter the leaves under the trunks turn yellow and fall, I spray and fertilize the plants normally being also the dry environment but it happens the same, now in winter can I administer some product suitable for the plant? With the stem of the plant almost bare, can I cut it and how should I behave afterwards?
I also have a small crassula that happens the same thing the leaves underneath shrink and fall, sometimes the plant goes limp and I don't know how to wet it being a succulent plant. Can any more be obtained from the mother plant?
Thank you right now for your attention Manfrin Ida

We thank you for having contacted us for information on your plants through the expert's section of "Gardening.it".
In the winter period it is common to have states of decay of the houseplants for the causes highlighted in the previous emails and also highlighted in your request.
If the environment is too hot and dry, it is necessary to spray the foliage, which it is carrying out, but it is also necessary to provide the right light and nourishment to the plants which, even if they reduce the vital activity, continue to grow and require light and fertilizers. .
For the log, if the stem has an unsightly appearance for the "very bare bottom", it is advisable to prune the plant or better cut the log with the double advantage of:
1. regenerate new shoots from the cutting position
2. recover part of the cut to create new cuttings and therefore new plants.
If it is oriented in this direction, we advise you to cut the plant in the spring and place the cut portions of the trunk at least 8-10 cm long on a suitable substrate with specific hormones to facilitate its rooting.
For Crassula it is recommended to do 1 annual repotting, the substrate must be perfectly draining therefore it is advisable to add expanded clay and / or sand up to 30% of the volume.
